The project Readings in flowers invited to for contemporary artists to research about the cultural and popular flower traditions of the region with a strong identity such as the Seville Holy Week; the balconies and patios in Andalusia, or the religious and domestic altars where flowers occupy an important place and they are arranged as self representation systems.
In the Easter procession, the flower represents the living thing, it forms a landscape where embroidery, lace, carving, wax crafts … build a collective desire of being just one.
The artists had to confront a material as fragile and ephemeral as the living flower. They had to collaborate with trades and crafts associated with floral culture. Flower culture is alive but also overly codified and in need of opening up to more contemporary languages and visions. These new visions could update flower arrangement forms, but above all they can produce meaning, question boundaries, widen channels and propose new frontiers.
It was also important to find references, such as the schools of Ikebana or Japanese flower arrangement, which, based on a tradition, have refined a system of transmission and learning that has spread worldwide. Ikebana has been able to update itself with the creation of schools such as Sogetsu, born in the second half of the 20th century, which incorporates materials, installation models and contemporary languages.

Readings in the sense that the subject is affected by the observed object, and decides to act to transform it, publicly offering the fruit of this relationship.
This first edition brought together four artists from Seville or who have lived there for years. This has brought them into contact with traditional manifestations of floral culture.
